Cut in Half the Number of Lower-Income Families Who Are Financially Unstable

 

Cut America’s High School Dropout Rate in Half

Increase by One-Third the Number of Youth and Adults Who Are Healthy and Avoid Risky Behaviors

Chenango County Vision

Increase opportunities to address the long term financial security of Chenango County families by helping these families:

·         gain financial dependence

·         increase income

·         build savings

·         and grow assets

so that they have reduced debt and are working toward goals such as postsecondary education, stable housing, business or retirement.

 

Examples:

Rehabilitate housing to accommodate families in need of affordable housing opportunities

 

Increase the number of families who have and actively utilize a bank account, with a focus on savings

 

Provide programs that help families to decrease debt

 

Provide programs that assist families facing mortgage delinquency or rental eviction

 

Provide workshops to teach community members about critical job skills

 

Provide programs that teach families basic skills to address the issues of illiteracy, housing instability and food insecurity.

 

 

Increase opportunities to improve the safety of youth, provide services for the disabled youth demographic and increase the school readiness and school completion rates of youths in Chenango County in order to help all youth achieve their full potential.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Examples:

Provide opportunities for youth and children to bond with peers, mentors and positive role models

 

Increase children’s success in school and desire for and appreciation of education

 

Provide safe places, life and job skills training and programs that build a child’s assets outside of traditional school hours

        

Provide programs that assist students in graduating high school on time

 

Provide programs that encourage the development of leadership skills, character building and service to others

 

Provide programs that assist parents in creating loving, nurturing relationships with their children

Increase opportunities to improve people’s health by focusing on efforts toward disease prevention, managing risk factors and increasing health awareness in order to specifically address the issue of the high rates of heart disease, obesity and oral/pharynx cancer in Chenango County.

Promote wellness through preventative heath, nutrition and immunization programs

 

Minimize transportation barriers for those needing treatment and health care

 

Provide programs that address the high costs of healthcare for families who are uninsured or underinsured

 

Provide programs that address the dental needs of families

 

Provide programming to address the mental health needs of families

 

Give children the tools they need to make good, healthy decisions
