Poverty Issues of Housing and Hunger
Vision: Ensure that all members of our community have the basic life necessities of adequate food and shelter,
so that they may be empowered to strive toward self sufficiency.
Examples:
- Provide shelter and support services for the homeless
- Provide programs that address food security issues
- Rehabilitate housing to accommodate the needs of families in need of affordable housing opportunities
- Increase the ability of individuals and families to receive information and referral services within the community
Access to Healthcare
Vision: Ensure that all members of the community have access to quality, affordable healthcare.
Examples:
- Promote wellness through preventative programs
- Minimize transportation barriers for those needing treatment and health care
- Encourage more local healthcare providers to accept Medicaid
- Provide programs that address the dental needs of families
- Provide programming to address mental health needs of families
- Provide programs that address the high costs of healthcare for families who are uninsured or underinsured
Opportunities for Children and Youth
Vision: Enable all youth to develop their full mental, social, physical and emotional potential through positive
relationships and a supportive community.
Examples:
- Provide opportunities for youth and children to bond with peers, mentors and positive role models
- Increase children's success in school and desire for and appreciation of education
- Provide safe places, life and job skills training and programs that build a child's assets outside of traditional school hours
- Give children the tools they need to make good, healthy decisions
- Provide programs that encourage the development of leadership skills, character building and service to others
- Provide programs that assist parents in creating loving, nurturing relationships with their children
The Aging Population
Vision: Ensure that our community's senior citizens are nurtured, supported and valued within the community.
Examples:
- Rehabilitate housing to accommodate the needs of senior citizens
- Help the elderly live as actively and independently as their abilities will permit
- Provide programs that address the high costs of prescription drugs for the elderly
- Provide programs to encourage socialization
- Minimize transportation barriers for those needing treatment, health care or socialization activity
